About Me

Tuan Bui is an illustrator and video game artist who graduated from Kansas City Art Institute in the year 2025. Growing up in Vietnam and moving to the United States at the age of 13, Tuan Bui found his interest in art really late at the age of 17, so he worked as hard as he could to get to the same level as his peers. Through a lot of struggles in life like getting lost on knowing what to do for the future, paperwork issues, COVID-19 and lock down, he finally transferred to KCAI in the year 2022 and graduated with his BFA degree majoring in Illustration.

Tuan found out that he loves doing video game art, character design, mostly fantasy characters with magic and stuff, and art that involves a lot of emotions or storytelling. He believes that art is very emotional and it is to tell a story, which can heal people from their wounds. He wants to tell his own story and the story of people who share similar struggles with him, thus heals both himself and others through his art. His emotional work usually focuses on more negative emotions like sadness or loneliness because those are what he’s been through the most. This is the main reason why he majored in Illustration. His work focuses a lot on conveying sadness, loneliness through composition, interactions between characters, color scheme, etc. He loves to do more rendered paintings, realistic, detailed art pieces. He usually works in digital media, but he can also work really well with graphite media. He does a lot of research on master artists and senior illustrators to get inspiration and learn their skills, which he believes that all art students should do. As a professional artist, he wants to work for video game companies as an illustrator, where his dream job would be working for Riot Games, Hoyoverse, or Kuro Games, but he also loves doing freelance work and commissions.
